All bodywork sessions are custom tailored. My goal is to provide outcome based treatment, integrating various techniques that support your needs with an emphasis on releasing patterns of nervous and tissue tension. This might look like facilitating identification and release of emotional or psychological trauma that presents physically: preserving, increasing, or recovering functional capacity: or pre- and post-operative support, and scar tissue management. Bodywork is also an important tool for anxiety, depression, addiction, or simply to maintain health. The work will vary from session to session, and may include any variety of modalities deemed most beneficial any given day. CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Using a soft touch which is generally about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct, CST is able to alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions from chronic pain, TMJ, and sports and accident injuries, to stroke and neurological impairment. Cupping Therapy
Cupping is one of the oldest and most effective methods of releasing the toxins from body tissue and organs. In this practice, special cups are placed on the skin to create suction using either fire or a hand pump. The practice increases blood flow, loosens the fascia or connective tissue, and is thought to stimulate healing. It is similar to the way deep tissue massage can be used to break up scar tissue and reduce pain. The cups are often placed on the back, neck, and shoulders or the site of pain. Cupping may cause temporary marks, depending upon the degree of suction created by the vacuum and the level of internal stagnation. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, this would be a favorable outcome.
Relaxation/Swedish Massage
One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques, Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. The disrobed client is covered by a sheet, with only the area being worked on uncovered. It reduces both emotional and physical stress and is suggested as a regular program for stress management.
Deep Tissue
Techniques that utilize deep-tissue/deep-muscle massage are administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and can reduce inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendinitis. It is integrated with other massage techniques as the muscles must first be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep-tissue massage; otherwise tight surface muscles prevent the practitioner from reaching deeper musculature. *Deep Tissue is NOT the same as 'deep pressure'.
Table Thai Massage
A traditional Thai massage incorporates an ancient combination of acupressure, energy meridian work, and passive stretching for an invigorating and balancing experience. Also called nuad bo rarn, Thai massage has been taught and practiced in Thailand for approximately twenty-five hundred years. Thai massage also involves peripheral stimulating, meaning it acts as an external stimulant to produce specific internal effects. This point serves as the main division between Thai and Western massage. Table Thai is adapted to the table instead of the traditional firm mat on the floor. The client remains fully clothed, so draping is not necessary. Thai massage improves circulation, flexibility, muscle tone, and is the perfect complement to any exercise routine.
Sports Massage (on-site)
Sports massage uses techniques similar to Swedish and deep tissue but is specifically adapted to deal with the needs of athletes and the effects of athletic performance on the body. Sports massage is used before or after events, as part of an athlete’s training regimen, and to promote healing from injuries. I have participated in many 5-10K and larger bike and run marathons, providing massage at the finish line.
*Average session time 10-20 minutes. Please reach out to me directly to schedule on-site sessions.
