All bodywork sessions are custom tailored. My goal is to provide outcome based treatment, integrating various techniques that support your needs with an emphasis on releasing patterns of tissue tension and strengthening areas of tissue weakness.
This includes relief from chronic pain, healing from injury or surgery, preserve or increase functional capacity (most often for athletics), diminishing soft-tissue pain arising from stress, anxiety, adhesions, and overuse. Bodywork can also help to cope with anxiety and depression, relax, or simply to maintain health. The work will vary from session to session and can include CranioSacral, Thai-style stretching, energy and meridian work, traditional Swedish, Trigger Point, or any other modality that is deemed most beneficial that day.

Table Thai Massage
A traditional Thai massage incorporates an ancient combination of acupressure, energy meridian work, and yoga-like stretching for an invigorating and balancing experience. Also called nuad bo rarn, Thai massage has been taught and practiced in Thailand for approximately twenty-five hundred years. Thai massage also involves peripheral stimulating, meaning it acts as an external stimulant to produce specific internal effects. This point serves as the main division between Thai and Western massage. Table Thai is adapted to the table instead of the traditional firm mat on the floor. The client remains fully clothed, so draping is not necessary. Thai massage improves circulation, flexibility, muscle tone, and is the perfect complement to any exercise routine.

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Using a soft touch which is generally about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct, CST is able to alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions from chronic pain, TMJ, and sports and accident injuries, to stroke and neurological impairment. It is recommended for more acute conditions that at least 3 sessions (once or twice a week) be scheduled to experience optimum benefits. Once your desired state has been reached, well-person visits to help maintain and prevent can be scheduled on a more relaxed basis. You can read more about it at the Upledger website.

CranioThai Fusion
A non-traditional blend incorporating Thai massage stretching and CranioSacral Therapy.

Relaxation/Swedish Massage

One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques, Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. The disrobed client is covered by a sheet, with only the area being worked on uncovered. It reduces both emotional and physical stress and is suggested as a regular program for stress management.

Deep Tissue
Techniques that utilize deep-tissue/deep-muscle massage are administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and can reduce inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendinitis. It is integrated with other massage techniques as the muscles must first be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep-tissue massage; otherwise tight surface muscles prevent the practitioner from reaching deeper musculature.

Sports Massage (on-site) - $1/minute*
Sports massage uses techniques similar to Swedish and deep tissue but is specifically adapted to deal with the needs of athletes and the effects of athletic performance on the body. Sports massage is used before or after events, as part of an athlete’s training regimen, and to promote healing from injuries. I have participated in many 5-10K and larger bike and run marathons, providing massage at the finish line.
*Average session time 10-20 minutes.
